What is a T-Profile?

Looking outside of one's own (academic) box is part of the program of the Geo.X Young Academy: Since innovative solutions to complex problems require several disciplines, it is beneficial for problem solvers to speak different "languages" to ease understanding and allow for varying points of view. In order to attain better insight not only into your professional experience and academic knowledge, but also your interfacing expertise, interdisciplinary skills and projects. The vertical bar must be filled with relevant information about your academic studies. In the horizontal bar, you can map competencies and activities that transcend or do not relate directly to your field of study.

Project: Fusion of high-resolution point cloud and spectral data for deriving topographic metrics

High-resolution topographic data derived from light detection and ranging (lidar) have revolutionised our ability to extract information about geomorphic processes, assess risk from natural hazards, and measure biomass and carbon stocks across landscapes. However, current methods of extracting topographic information from lidar require the data to be filtered into a regular grid, inevitably leading to data loss and introducing artificial problems of scale and grid resolution. My Geo.X project involves developing new methods for directly extracting geomorphic information from irregularly spaced point clouds, using complex network theory. I also plan to fuse these point cloud data with spectral information to improve topographic and land-cover assessments, such as the classification of vegetation cover and bedrock outcrops at higher resolutions than currently possible.
