Geo.X Annual Meeting 2025 "Water in Motion"! - A short review

On 1st October, the annual meeting of the Geo.X research network was held at Telegrafenberg. The event, with the theme ‘Water in Motion’, began with a welcome address by the heads of the host institutions AWI, PIK and GFZ.

Around 130 colleagues from the network and numerous guests had the opportunity to learn about research across different spatial scales on the topic of ‘Water in Motion’ at the Geo.X partner institutions in the scientific lecture programme: From the research, networking, training and outreach of the Potsdam WaterHub over the observation of water activities throughout the solar system, the investigation of the effects of climate change at the North Pole, the assessment of Europe-wide hydroclimatic risks, and the modelling and management of flood risks, to the development of coordinated climate-water strategies for the Berlin-Brandenburg region.

As every year, the highlight of the evening was inspiring 3-minute pitches by the newly appointed professors in the network. The evening ended with a relaxed get-together and an exhibition by the Geo.X partner institutions and further initiatives. The event was accompanied by a slideshow, for which images on the theme of water from everyday work life could be submitted in advance to illustrate how water connects across disciplines and activities.

We would like to thank all participants for the great atmosphere and the wonderful networking evening!

However, Geo.X is not just institutions, it’s the people behind them. To showcase this, we invite you to upload photos, drawings, etc. that reflects how water connects to your work. Add a title and your name, and feel free to be creative. Whether it’s about your research or just the water in your coffee before coding, it all counts. The slideshow will be shared during the Get-Together.
