Dear All,

Please mark the date for the upcming Seminar hosted by GFZ's Section 3.6: Chemistry and Physics of Earth Materials:

Dr. Wenzhong Wang

Earth and Planets Laboratory, Carnegie Institution of Washington

will give a talk on

"Water in the Earth?"

Abstract:

Earth is a water world at the surface, a feature often interpreted as the key to habitability. Earth is composed of silicate mantle and metallic core, and more and more studies demonstrate that Earth's interior is a great water reservoir, but how much water is truly inside our planet? Where is it and what does it do in there? A bigger question is how and when Earth accreted its water? This talk will concentrate on what we know from the geophysical and geochemical observations about the distribution, effects, and origins of water in Earth's interior.
