  Event

Date: 23rd - 24th November 2023

Venue: Museum für Naturkunde Berlin (MfN)

Dear colleagues,

we are very excited to announce our Geo.X Grow Your Idea Event “Reviving historical coral museum collections to decipher past geochemical climate signals” in form of a round table at the Museum of Natural History in Berlin at 23-24 November 2023.

The Museum of Natural History houses an extensive coral collection, comprising corals with well-documented collection sites, spanning over 200 years of acquisition. These specimens contain historical climate and environmental data, encompassing periods both before and after the onset of the industrial era. To tap into this valuable resource, this two-day round table at 23-24 November seeks to bring together local Geo.X members with a group of external experts. The goal is to chart the optimal path to utilize the museum’s unique assortment of coral skeletons trough geochemical analyses to enhance the understanding of past environmental stress signals.

The Geo.X Grow Your Idea Event will take part at the Invalidenstraße 43, 10115 Berlin. Meeting point in the mornings are the stairs leading to the main entrance of the Museum of Natural History.

Registration is now open via link (or e-mail to the organizers). You are welcome to briefly present your own research (this is truly optional, not a must).
