  Dates & Events

5:30 p.m.

University of Potsdam, Campus Golm

House 25, room F.1.01

Inaugural Lecture

Professorship Remote Sensing in Geosciences

Prof. Dr. Luis Guanter
(Institute of Earth and Environmental Science at University of Potsdam and GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences, Head of Section 1.4)

will give his inaugural lecture on
„Monitoring the Earth`s land surface with satellite-based spectroscopy“

Afterwards the speaker invites you to a small reception.

Abstract:

Hyperspectral remote sensing, also known as imaging spectroscopy, is based on the measurement with space-based instruments of the solar radiation reflected by the land surface at different wavelengths or “colours”. The resulting reflected radiation spectrum shows absorption features characterizing the constituents of the observed area, which can be exploited for the identification and quantification of surface materials. Luis Guanter’s inaugural lecture will describe how satellite spectroscopic measurements are being used to map important land surface parameters and the main national and international projects for the further development of space-based imaging spectroscopy technology.

All people interested are cordially invited.
