Dependence of Global Sustainability on the Degree of Fear and Aspiration
Abstract:
While many people recognize that human consciousness lies at the root of today’s global problems, only education is viewed as a viable means of addressing this dilemma. Two powerful components of consciousness are fear and aspiration, and their interplay shapes our world in many fundamental ways as described in this talk. It is argued that human societies should support practices such as meditation that decrease fear and increase aspiration as a means of securing greater global sustainability. The relationship between fear, aspiration and meditation is described using an arguably timeless understanding of consciousness developed in Vedic India thousands of years ago.
