  Workshop

Date: 13th and 14th of February 2020

Venue: GFZ Campus Telegrafenberg Potsdam

Organizers:Dr. Stefanie Tofelde, Institute of Geosciences, University of Potsdam
& Dipl.-Geogr. Anne Voigtländer, Scientist at Section 4.6: “Geomorphology”

Registration: Registration is free. Find further information on the process below!

Dear Early Careers,

Are you working within the discipline of Earth surface dynamics? Then you might be interested in the workshop advertised below:

Researchers of earth surface dynamics have various expertise and methods they use to explain past, present and future landscape development. All these expertise contribute greatly to the understanding of earth surface processes. Yet, this - seemingly heterogeneous - group of scientists seems to be divided between the ‘Process’ and ‘Archive’ focused scientist. We questioned ourselves: Do we need to bridge a gap? What are the big scientific questions, the assumptions and the methods that are used in archives and processes focused science? What are the research gaps? And how can we bridge these gaps in future research?

Workshop on the 13th and 14th of February 2020

To tackle some of these questions we (Anne Voigtländer, Steffi Tofelde, Renee van Dongen) are organizing a 2-day-workshop at the Telegrafenberg in Potsdam on February 13th (9:30 am-5 pm) and 14th (9:30am – 4 pm, with beers afterwards).

The primary aim of this workshop is to bring experts from both fields together to discuss. We want to focus on early and midcareer scientist, who play big role in drafting new ideas and conduct research. We provide a program of short introduction talks, outbreak discussion groups and plenary discussions. The main aim is to create a platform which fosters new collaborations and initiatives to bridge the gap between archives and processes.

If you want to attend this workshop, please let us know before the 25th of January. Write an e-mail to: avoigt@gfz-potsdam.de, tofelde@uni-potsdam.de and dongen@gfz-potsdam.de

and briefly state:
- Your field of expertise
- Your career stage (PhD, Postdoc, other)
- Your motivation to attend the workshop (what would you like to achieve with this workshop).

This is a low-budget, bottom-up workshop on own initiative. There is no registration fee and travel and accommodation costs are for your own expenses.

Best regards,
Steffi Tofelde, Anne Voigtländer and Renee van Dongen
