The GFZ is host institute for the German-South African Year of Science Symposium GEO-FUTURE, which celebrates the Inkaba yeAfrica flagship programme of collaborative research and education in Earth System Science (www.inkaba.org). More than 80 delegates from South Africa, including 60 postgraduate students from 8 universities will attend this 5-day workshop. Scientific sessions cover four theme areas: Geodynamics & Earth Observation, Energy Resources, Mineral Resources, and Geo-Ecodynamics (land, ecosystems & climate change).
In addition to the packed science sessions, students benefit from several specialist training courses and site visits to partner institutes of the Berlin-Potsdam Geo.X network.
A central event is the public lecture “Earth Stewardship Science with Everyone a Stakeholder“, given by Prof. Dr. Maarten de Wit from the AEON-Institut (Africa Earth Observatory Network) in the Urania Berlin on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 19:30 h.
The symposium in Potsdam and public lecture in Berlin are open to all interested persons.
