Student Geoscientific Society

The Student Geoscientific Society promotes interest in and knowledge about geoscientific topics as well as strong collaboration among students and professionals of all geoscientific disciplines ranging from geology and geophysics through geography to meteorology.

Our strong commitment to our projects is based on our three guiding principles of leadership, community and networking. We focus our activities on improving the range and quality of course offerings in Berlin and Potsdam by organizing additional field camps and trips to national and international scientific conferences as well as hosting guest lectures of highly renowned geoscientists from all over the world. Furthermore, we network university and high school students with young professionals and experienced geoscientists from industry and academia in order to spark interest in academic studies of our sciences and improve career opportunities for young geoscientists.

The SGS members do pioneer work in operating the first official German Student Chapters of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), the European Association of Geoscientists & Engineers (EAGE) and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG).

SGS is supported by Geo.X and its partner universities and research institutes in Berlin and Potsdam, by SEG, AAPG and EAGE as well as by the PHASE university consortium of our SEG & EAGE Student Chapter Faculty Advisor Prof. Dr. Serge Shapiro.

If you are interested in our activities, have a closer look at our projects as well as the manifold ways to socialize with students and geoscientists from all over the world and to improve the overall quality of your academic studies by getting involved with the SGS vision.
