DFG Graduate School GRK 1364
Shaping Earth's Surface in a Variable Environment
Interactions between Tectonics, Climate and the Biosphere in the African-Asian Monsoonal Region
The Graduate School GRK 1364 is a eight years lasting series of interdisciplinary projects performed at the University of Potsdam. The Graduate School was initially launched by Prof. Manfred Strecker, PhD in 2006 and financed by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the federal state of Brandenburg, and the University of Potsdam.
The principal research theme of the Graduate School GRK 1364 is the interaction between tectonics and climate in shaping the surface of Earth at different length and timescales. In addition, studying the impact of these processes on the biosphere is a central part of this effort. The regional basis for incorporated projects involves the India-Asia Collision Zone and the East African Rift System, both characterized by ongoing tectonics and the formation of pronounced relief contrasts in the Cenozoic.
